Great Boards Shape Thriving Cultures

Like you, we’re here to make the greatest impact in the life of your nonprofit organization, and the world.

At RO Walker Company, we believe that the ground floor for true organizational transformation is an enthusiastic, collaborative, and engaged board equipped to raise more funds, steward resources, and take responsibility for achieving a clear vision, together.

But it doesn’t stop there.

After decades of supporting nonprofit institutions, we’ve come to see that a thriving future also requires organizational capacity for transformation: the ability to adapt, respond, and remain mission-focused in the face of change.

Successful fundraising is critical...

But a board that works together, is deeply invested in the mission, and is equipped to champion the cause shapes culture and builds a legacy.

That’s how we make the biggest impact in our world—and yours.

Meet Dick Walker, Principal

Dick Walker has more than 35 years of experience helping nonprofit leaders advance their missions through fundraising and philanthropy. Strategic and human-centered in his approach, Dick is a natural teacher (in fact, it was his first career!) and he brings the joy of sharing “ah-ha” moments and practical knowledge to every engagement. Like any great teacher, Dick’s purpose is to help others fulfill their potential and impact the world. Today, he does that through consulting, coaching, and content that cultivates exceptional board engagement and fundraising for nonprofit institutions.

Credentials

  • 32-year career at the Landon School as a teacher and as Director of Development, leading two capital campaigns for the school, raising more than $25 million in contributions combined, and increased annual giving from $100,000 to almost $1 million a year (a legacy that lives on today).

  • Vice President of Corporate Giving at FBR Capital Markets supporting the growth and expansion of the firm’s philanthropic efforts, and helped bring in corporate and employee contributions totaling almost $10 million and supported the FBR Open, the largest charitable event of the PGA TOUR regular season with more that $30 million donated to charity during his four-year tenure.

  • Managing Director at the ORR Group (formerly Orr Associates, Inc. or OAI) for four years leading major gift campaigns for institutional nonprofits.

  • Active board member or board chair for multiple institutional nonprofit boards, most recently:

  • Board Member, Princeton AlumniCorps

  • Honorary Member, Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rotary Club

  • Member, Leadership Greater Washington (Class of 2007)

  • Former Vice-Chair of the Board, Mentors, Inc.

  • In addition to consulting, Dick is an Associate at Aspen Leadership Group, the nation’s leading executive search firm for fundraising and nonprofit leadership.

  • Most importantly, Dick is a devoted husband, father of four, and grandfather to two beautiful granddaughters for whom he thrives to leave a legacy of generosity and compassion.

As part of a larger project, Dick and I offered a full-day “fundraising 101” training. He is really so gifted in drawing out confidence from the most resistant people. A board sets the tone for fundraising and he has a nice way of breaking it down for them, inspiring them, and helping them feel good about it.
